Bozeman Hot Springs
Relax and unwind in the natural hot springs located just outside of town. Head to the outdoor pools for the best experience! On the weekends and in the evenings they have the outside area illuminated with an ambient fire, making your soak even more cozy and enjoyable. They also have live music on Thursday and Sunday evenings. It’s a perfect spot for a leisurely day, especially after hiking or skiing. If you don’t mind a little drive, other nearby hot springs worth visiting are Norris Hot Springs, Chico Hot Springs (you don’t have to be a guest to use the hot spring), and Yellowstone Hot Springs.
Hyalite Canyon

Ideal for a day trip, Hyalite Reservoir offers activities like boating, fishing, and picnicking in a picturesque setting. There are many notable hikes to venture on throughout Hyalite that range from easy to difficult. One popular spot that’s a short hike and a short drive from Bozeman is Palisade Falls. This easy hike leads to a stunning waterfall. It’s perfect for families or anyone looking for a scenic, relaxing outdoor activity. Other popular hikes are Grotto Falls, Hyalite Lake/Hyalite Peak, Blackmore Peak, and History Rock.
Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Ski Areas
Come winter, Bozeman becomes a hub for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. With Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Resort nearby, the Bozeman area offers some of the best slopes in the Rockies. From challenging runs to beginner-friendly slopes, there’s something for everyone at either resort! Definitely consider utilizing their shuttles for a worry-free trip. Bridger’s is free, while Big Sky’s is $10 round trip.
Gallatin River
Ideal for fishing, rafting, and floating the Gallatin River offers both adventure and the chance to enjoy Montana’s natural beauty.
There are other world class rivers around Bozeman like the Madison, Jefferson, and Yellowstone. All are renowned for their fly fishing. If you’re looking for a leisurely float, the Madison is the perfect place to put in. Be aware that you’ll need 2 vehicles. You can buy cheap tubes at Walmart or use a floating guided service like Madison River Tubing that provides you with everything you need!

Located just a short drive from Bozeman, the Encounter provides a unique and educational experience centered around grizzly bear conservation. Founded as a sanctuary for rescued grizzlies, the bears here have been rescued from situations that made them unfit for release into the wild, and the Encounter focuses on providing them with a high-quality life while educating the public about bear safety and conservation. Farmers Markets
Bozeman farmers markets are a vibrant community hub that operate year-round, adapting to the seasonal changes of Montana. It’s located at the Gallatin Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday’s from 9am-noon. During the summer months, it blossoms outdoors, showcasing a colorful array of fresh, local produce, artisan foods, and handmade crafts. It’s an excellent place for visitors and locals to enjoy live music, and sample the best of regional agriculture and craftsmanship. In the winter, the market moves indoors, continuing to offer the same rich selection of goods.
During the summer months there is another fun outdoor market at Lindley Park, it’s every Tuesday from 5-8 you can keep an eye out for schedule here.

Peets Hill/Burke Park + Bozeman Pond + Bozeman Beach + Story Mill Park
Peets Hill/Burke Park is a popular spot for locals, offering panoramic views of Bozeman and the surrounding mountains. It’s perfect any time of day, especially for a sunset walk. It’s graded and stroller/wheelchair accessible, perfect for all ages and abilities. Definitely a must for a fun outdoor activity with great views so close to town. Bozeman Pond, Bozeman Beach, and Story Mill Park are areas also well worth visiting for great walking trails and beautiful scenery. A bonus feature of Story Mill Park is that it has a huge play ground area for kiddos!
Lindley Park
Lindley Park, nestled in the heart of Bozeman, is a serene and picturesque destination perfect for a relaxing day out. Hiking the Trails
Bozeman is surrounded by numerous trails, ranging from easy strolls to challenging hikes. The Bridger Range and Gallatin Canyon offer spectacular views and varied difficulty levels. Don’t miss popular trails like the ‘M’ Trail or Sourdough Canyon, where the beauty of Montana’s wilderness is on full display. Other great hikes around town are East Gallatin Recreation Area, Story Mill Park, Leverich Canyon, Triple Tree Tailhead, Sypes Canyon, Middle Cottonwood Canyon, Storm Castle, and Beehive Basin. All Trails is a great, free resource for finding hiking trails. If you pay for a subscription it allows you to download trail maps for use when you’re out of service (which happens a lot). Be sure to always let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to return. During the summer months, be sure to carry enough water for every person and animal on the excursion and avoid arduous hikes during the heat of the day (11-2).
Wildlife Watching
Bozeman’s proximity to Yellowstone National Park makes it an ideal location for wildlife watching. Don’t forget your binoculars and keep an eye out for bison, elk, and even the elusive grizzly or brown bear. In most outdoor spaces, you’ll be able to observe many bird species and even raptors so keep your eyes open! You may even have the chance to observe moose, beavers, mountain goats, big horn sheep, marmots and more in the areas I mentioned in the last paragraph.
Horseback Riding

While Bozeman itself is more of an urban area, it’s surrounded by numerous ranches within a short drive, offering a range of authentic Western experiences. Be aware that finding campsites can be difficult especially in popular areas like Hyalite Canyon. Due to popularity, most developed campsites now require reservations which are made on www.recreation.gov however there are still many places to go camp on State Land, BLM, and National Forest Service for dispersed camping experiences. Hip camp is also a great resource for securing camping reservations.
Scenic Drives
Explore Bozeman’s beauty from the comfort of your car with scenic drives. Routes like Bridger Canyon Drive or the drive to Hyalite Reservoir offer breathtaking views of the mountains, forests, and often, wildlife. If you’re up for a little drive, the Beartooth Highway is an iconic stretch of road with the most scenic views and goes from Red Lodge to Cooke City, MT. Other beautiful drives to take would be:
-Gallatin Canyon towards West Yellowstone, loop around to see Earthquake Lake and Ennis/Madison Valley OR go through the park and exit at the North entrance or North East entrance depending on your plans!
-Paradise Valley towards Gardiner, go through the park and exit through the West entrance and take the Gallatin Canyon drive or the Ennis drive back to Bozeman.
